Anon10042,

Good question, I should have clarified this term. In the current context legacy UNIX systems are those which have not been updated for the last several years and/or old releases of current operation systems. An example would be to pick up say Redhat 6.2 distribution of Linux which came way back around 2000. IRIX, some variants of BSD have not been touched for very long. However, these systems survive in various places and there is a possibility that you may come across such a UNIX system, hence the clarification.

Do note that Unices such as HP-UX, AIX and Solaris which are actively maintained also do not come with lots of utilities which are default in GNU/Linux distributions.
